Meet Jorgen!

Just take a moment and enjoy Jorgen’s breathtaking smile!  I couldn’t get over how adorable cute she is!  Jorgen has a special twin brother Traven who is watching out for her in heaven.

Tell us a little bit about your sweet babies  “Traven and Jorgen were born March 3, 2011.  My water broke with Traven at 17 weeks.  The doctors told us that within the next seven days, I had an 80% of going into labor and delivering the babies or developing an infection and they would have to take the babies.  They told me to go home on bed rest and pray for a miracle.  We did pray for a miracle!  After being on bedrest for what seemed like forever, I was able to keep my babies in and delivered them at 27 weeks.  Traven’s lungs did not develop because he did not have the fluid around him, so he lived a short 22 hours.  I am thankful my entire family, and my husband’s parents were there to kiss him goodbye with us.  Jorgen went on to stay in the NICU for 74 days.  What a blessing these babies are in our lives!”

How early was  your baby born?  “They were born at 27 weeks.  (13 weeks early)”

How much did your baby weigh?  “Jorgen weighed 2 lbs 5 oz  (Traven was 2 lbs 3 oz)”

What was the hardest thing that you experienced during your time in the NICU? “The hardest thing I experienced was the hard days when Jorgen was not doing very good in the NICU.  I had just lost a baby, so I was so worried that something would happen to Jorgen.  Luckily she did just fine, and is a healthy girl now”

What was the most wonderful thing that happened during this time?  “The most wonderful thing that happened was I got to be a mom!  I loved being able to hold Jorgen and knowing that she was MINE!”

What is the most important lesson that you learned throughout your NICU experience?  “The most important lesson I learned was that there will be ups and downs with every baby in the NICU.  I always thought that my baby would be the tough one, and would have only good days.  We had plenty of bad days with lots of tears.  But after many prayers, we were finally able to bring home a healthy little girl.”

If you could meet a parent of a NICU baby, what advice would you give them?  “If I could give any NICU parent, I would tell them to keep a NICU baby journal.  I always kept a small journal in my purse, and while I was sitting in the NICU with my baby I would record her stats, weight for the day and anything that happened throughout the day.  It is fun to look back and remember those good/bad days by what I had recorded.”

Now that you are home as a family, what are your favorite things to do?  “Now that we are home together as a family, we enjoy going camping and spending time outside.”

Tell us a little about your baby now~ “Jorgen loves Mickey Mouse and Disney Princesses.  She loves chili, fruit roll-ups and going shopping!  She loves to sing and paint her fingernails.  But she really loves spending time at her twin brother’s grave.  We love this sweet girl!”
